While Invisalign has been around since the 90s, people assume the clear plastic aligner system is only for adults who only need to move their teeth just a bit, even to simply move them back after their teeth have moved a bit following their teenage braces. But Invisalign can work well for teenagers, too. Kids are already insecure enough in their teenage years. Nothing adds to that more than the metal bands and wires of traditional braces!Â
No more metal
Rather than metal brackets and wires, Invisalign is made of clear, plastic aligners. For ultra self-conscious teens, this is great news because Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible, even from conversational distance.
And Invisalign is much easier to care for than traditional braces. No need for floss threaders, special brushing instructions, or any of that. With Invisalign, the wearer simply takes out the tray when it’s time to brush their teeth. Plus, no need for a special diet. The wearer can eat corn on the cob and similar foods because they take the tray out when eating. For teens, this makes life much easier when it comes to hanging out with friends and dating.
Eligibility for Invisalign
The dentists at Gentle Dental can examine your teenager and see if he or she is right for Invisalign. Generally, Invisalign can be used among teens who have erupting or newly erupted permanent teeth. It can’t be used in cases where the teeth need to be seriously moved.
