Be Sure to Use Up Your Dental Insurance Dollars

Family Dentist Edison, Metuchen, & South Plainfield, NJLast month we detailed how most dental insurance plans work, and why you may want to schedule an appointment with the team at Gentle Dental before the end of the year to avoid leaving insurance money unspent and gone for good. We’re back to give you a second reminder here, plus we have a couple ideas on what you could use this money on.

About that insurance

If part of your company’s insurance is dental, it’s not anywhere near as comprehensive as your health insurance. Most plans have a yearly maximum that the company will pay for your dental work within one full year. The average amount is usually $1,000 per year, per person. After you reach that amount, you have to pay for everything. If you have unused benefits, these won’t rollover into next year, so you should take advantage of them before 2019 comes to a close.

Deductible

Deductibles on most dental plans are $50. If you’ve already had something done this year, say the first of your twice-yearly exams and cleanings, you’ve met your deductible. Having something done before the end of the year saves you from paying that $50 again. And $50 is $50, right?

A couple ideas

If you’ve already had your twice-yearly cleanings and exams with us at Gentle Dental, you could think there’s nothing you’d spend your insurance money on, as you don’t have any problems. But here are a couple of ideas.

  • Teeth bleaching

At Gentle Dental we refer to our teeth whitening as teeth bleaching. That’s because we can whiten your teeth to a whiter shade than is their natural actual color. This isn’t necessary for everyone, but some people simply have enamel that is more yellow in color than others. Plus, as we get older our enamel becomes more and more yellow. This is a combination of stains, plus the thinning of the enamel, which allows the dentin layer color to come through a little more. Teeth bleaching can whiten your teeth up to eight shades!

  • Bonding

Dental bonding is an easy, painless cover up of flaws with your teeth. Our Gentle Dental dentists paint composite resin onto the tooth. It is then cured to harden it, and then smoothed to blend in perfectly with the rest of the tooth and adjacent teeth. Bonding can cover small chips or pock marks in teeth. It can close a small gap between teeth. It can change the shape of a somewhat misshapen tooth. It takes just a single appointment, and the procedure is completely painless.
